It's a very sad time for the Forex community in multiple different ways.
Not heard anything about MT4 shutting down here in the UK, many of the big brokers still don't even offer MT5 including the biggest IG Markets.

All of the big brokers have developed their own platforms and if MT4 went they would probably push clients onto those.

Brett is having all sorts of issues finding a reliable broker with MT4...... so according to him none of us trade lol

How come you had to change so many times? They closed down?

MT4 in the US has it's own peculiarities when compared to UK and EU. The main vehicle for trading in the UK/EU on the MT4 platform are Contracts For Difference (CFDs) which are banned in the US.

Another problem for US clients is that hedging was also banned and it was this that forced Metaquotes to rush out the MT5 platform to comply with the new law in 2013.

Though Metaquotes came up with a MT4 version where the broker could turn off hedging it sounds like there is less of a reason to keep it going in the US. But in the UK and EU it remains the most popular platform by far and, as said before, many large brokers don't even offer MT5.

Someone in another forum got this message on their US trading account:

Anyone else get this? Been trying all day to figure out why my expert isn't trading, Experts tab says "Trade Disabled". Same when I try to trade manually. So I logged into TradersWay and check messages, here it is:

Dear ,

We have been notified about changes to MetaQuotes' policies and have been asked to phase-out your trading activity on the MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 platforms, as you reside in the United States.

If you have open positions, they must be closed by Wednesday, 24 April, 2024 at the end of the trading day. Any remaining positions will be closed automatically at the prevailing market price at or around rollover -- 00:00 server time on Thursday 25 April, 2024. Note that this corresponds with 5PM ET, 2PM PT in the US.

We are working on adding multiple new platforms to provide all of our clients with more choices and freedom to trade. As a thank you for your loyalty and support we will offer you 0 trading commissions on your account for the rest of 2024 once a new platform has been implemented, along with other bonuses that we will announce soon. This means you will pay only the spread, we cover the commission, and you keep more of your profits in your trading account.

We understand that this is unexpected. We are doing our best to ensure the smoothest possible transition for all clients so they can get back to trading.

Thank you for your understanding,

Trader's Way Team
